Current access and the weights timeline

Kimi's launch post describes K3.1 Pro as a 3T-class model with a one-million-token context and a Highspeed variant. It lists hosted access through Kimi.ai, Kimi Work, Kimi Code and the Kimi API. The same post says full model weights will be released by November 4. As checked on October 25, that announcement is a future commitment, not proof that those weights can already be downloaded.

A large context is not a completed task

Our evaluation question is whether the model can find and use the relevant material while ignoring distracting information. More room for inputs does not automatically produce accurate citations, reliable edits or a finished deliverable. Start with a document collection whose answers you can verify. Put decisive information in different locations across the collection and include a question that cannot be answered from it. Reward a clear statement of missing evidence rather than a confident guess.

Test coding changes with an observable finish line

Choose a small repository task with a reproducible starting state and a concrete outcome. Keep the requested behavior, allowed tools and test conditions constant across candidates. Review the resulting diff for unrelated edits and verify that the original defect is actually addressed. Count retries and manual intervention. An impressive explanation of a patch is not equivalent to working code, and a passing command does not establish that an untested user interaction works.

Compare standard and Highspeed on the same job

The vendor presents Highspeed as a faster option; that is a product claim rather than our measurement. To evaluate it, use identical task inputs and assess correctness before speed. Record response latency, full task duration and reviewer time separately. Preserve unsuccessful runs in the comparison. A faster initial answer can still produce a slower overall workflow if it needs more correction, repeated tool calls or manual recovery.

Keep agent authority narrower than its context

If you test a model with tools, begin in a copy of the workspace using synthetic or public information. Give it enough access to complete the bounded exercise, not every account connected to your business. Define which actions require human review. Keep changes inspectable and provide a recovery path. The relevant control is what the agent can actually do with its tools; the amount of text it can read is a separate property.

What to verify when downloadable artifacts arrive

Revisit the official release location, license, checksums and serving documentation rather than relying on the launch name. Confirm which variant each artifact represents and what environment the maintainers support. Do not derive a consumer-GPU recommendation from a total parameter label. Hosted API access and a self-hosted installation have different costs and responsibilities. This article contains no independent speed, coding or hardware benchmark and will need updating when the announced artifact status changes.

CLEAR ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Are Kimi K3.1 Pro full weights already released?

The checked launch post promises the full weights by November 4. On October 25, that date is still in the future.

Where does the launch post list hosted access?

It lists Kimi.ai, Kimi Work, Kimi Code and the Kimi API.

Does a million-token context guarantee accurate research?

No. Context capacity does not establish retrieval accuracy, correct citations or successful completion of a task.
